2010-09-10
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV, September 10, 2010 (Press-News.org) The North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce (NLVCC) is pleased to announce its lineup of speakers for Directions 2010 - Strategies for Tomorrow. This year's Directions, on Thursday, Oct. 14, is the ninth annual economic forecasting and contemporary business issues event hosted by the NLVCC.

This year's speakers include:

John Restrepo, principal of Restrepo Consulting Group

Known for his objectivity and "tell it like it is" style, Restrepo will roll out the latest "good, bad and ugly" statistics. Good or bad, having the advantage of accurate economic information is key to good decision making. Find out what the statistics say about North Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Valley for 2011 and beyond. Arm yourself with the kind of intelligence you need to be an effective business executive.

Dr. Jeffrey Geihs, vice president & COO of The Public Education Foundation

Few would disagree that upgrading our workforce is central to economic diversification. Yet educators and public policy officials just can't seem to find a way to raise the bar on student achievement in our public schools. Other cities have turned their school systems around. Why can't we? Learn about one strategy for scholastic improvement from a former North Las Vegas high school principal and successful education innovator. Is the Clark County School District ready to make meaningful changes?

Jamie Naughton, cruise ship captain for Zappos.com

When you carry the title of "cruise ship captain" in an online clothing and footwear retailer, you know something is going on. Take a narrated tour of Zappos.com, the company that is revolutionizing the way business is done and the way companies create culture. Now you have the chance to hear it from someone who lives the Zappos.com culture every day.

Mark Mix, president of National Right to Work Committee

One of the most formidable players in the 2008 elections was labor unions. With a forced unionism president in the White House and a filibuster-proof Congress, labor laws are undergoing sweeping change. Card check and the Police and Firefighter Monopoly Bargaining Bill are just two examples of how hard Big Labor is pushing to increase its membership roles at the expense of free enterprise and an employee's right to work. The leader of the National Right to Work Committee will explain what the chessboard looks like and what's at stake in these critical negotiations.

Directions 2010 will take place from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14 in the Dallas Ballroom at Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel at 2101 Texas Star Lane in North Las Vegas. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast and exhibits. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. Lunch is provided at 11:45 a.m.

The goal of Directions 2010 is to provide area business executives with business and community intelligence from a range of experts. Business executives use Directions, the signature event of the NLVCC, to renew current business relationships and make new connections. The event is expected to draw more than 350 attendees.

Tickets are available by phone at (702) 642-9595 or online at http://www.northlasvegaschamber.com. The event is open to the general public. Ticket prices start at $45 for NLVCC members and include breakfast, lunch and parking.
