LONG BEACH, CA, September 10, 2010 (Press-News.org) FAIRIES WITH CHILDREN OPENS TO FIGHT FOR GAY EQUALITY
(Drag Musical Spoof focuses on the Suburban Conservative
as the key to changing hearts and minds of all Americans)
The new musical spoof "Fairies With Children, The Yes On Hate Episode" will open October 22nd at the Meta Theatre 7801 Melrose Avenue for a six week run, Friday and Saturday only at 8pm. The show exposes the anti gay agenda prevalent in the suburbs of California. The gender bending parody is being produced by WideStance Productions (The Golden Gays). A percentage of the proceeds from the show will go to fight for marriage Equality. Tickets will be $30.00 and available on many discount ticket sites as well.
The story centers around a group of gay activists who determine that they must infiltrate the conservative suburbs of Los Angeles to change the hearts and minds of these ignorant people. They do so by posing as an ordinary American couple (Peg and Al Bundy). Happily, the home they find happens to be right next door to that of conservative Republican Senator Bavid Breier and "his assistant". When Bavid Breier realizes the activist plan, he decides to fight fire with fire and infiltrate their world as Jefferson and Marcy Darcy.
Meanwhile, Al Bundy takes a job at the "Gay-Less Shoe Source" where he services a full figured customer Sandy (played by Donna Pieroni, one of the original fat women from the TV series). The two share an instant dislike for one another however Al must keep his enemies close at hand by befriending the woman as she represents the whole Republican community. Eventually, Sandy morphs into Tracy Turnblatt from hairspray for a couple of Musical numbers. Meanwhile, a local straight ally stops by as well as a hook up from Adam 4 Adam who has been released from the Military under Don't Ask Don't Tell. The new family unit artificially joins forces in forwarding Republican values along with Fat Sandy who can quote any of the Fox News Pundits, but has no idea what they're saying.
Fans of the original television series will also get a small dose of a sarcastic talking dog, a wise cracking son, and a not so bright blonde daughter. Of course both Peg and Marcy will be played by men, and there will be plenty of camp to go around. The show parodies seven songs from contemporary musicals including "Hairspray", "Guys and Dolls", "Little Shop of Horrors", "Dreamgirls" and in celebration of its 30th anniversary - "Annie".
Fairies will be directed by Christopher Michael Graham, who for the past six years, has been a resident director/choreographer/member of the internationally recognized Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. During his tenure with the Chorus, he had the opportunity to direct and choreograph such luminaries as Lily Tomlin, Valarie Pettiford, Jane Lanier, Liz Torres, and the fabulous Miss Coco Peru.
The show is being Produced by WideStance Productions, a troupe known for bringing gay issues to the forefront in ways that are non preachy. The groups last Production The Golden Gays received critical acclaim and traveled to several cities including the original home of the famous foursome - Miami.
