PHUKET, THAILAND, April 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) Bolibong Kingking Festival as well as being a religious occasion is also an important music event with the festival name even dedicated to the sound of music. Although rather strange sounding the word bolibong actually refers to the sound the gongs and drums make when they're beaten for the festival. Kingking is the sound of the metal utensils which are tapped together and these form some of the core instruments that are played. The unique music performances are accompanied by a ritual dance that reflects the people's devotion to the saint.
The festival is a key event for the Lobocanos, as it acts as a time of remembrance to relive scenes from the town's history through drama and dance. It is also held as a reminder to the younger generation to keep their faith along with the customs and traditions of the community.
The festivities run over two days from 23rd to 24th May 2011 and visitors looking to attend from their hotel in Bohol can see all the activities which will be held in the centre of the town.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com, commented: "At such a busy festival it isn't going to be easy to find a hotel with a spare room so visitors should prebook hotels if heading to the city over those dates."
