MIDVALE, UT, April 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) What do bananas and bugs have in common? Each is a remedy for families with bored children. Two new interactive titles by author Karl Beckstrand provide relief from "I'm bored" disease.
Midvale author, Karl Beckstrand will demonstrate and share his banana smoothies from Bad Bananas - A Story Cookbook for Kids on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Sunflower Market 6284 S. State St., Murray, UT. He will also be signing books.
"Bad Bananas dramatizes the short (shelf) life of a renegade bunch," says Beckstrand, "and presents tasty recipes kids and parents can use, even when a banana starts to go 'bad.'"
Illustrator Jeff Faerber's characters (with sticker tattoos, pierced peels, and wild hair stems) take the fruit bowl for late night spins or start turf wars with rival bunches. But kids find that "Even a bad banana can turn out good."
Beckstrand's other new title, She Doesn't Want the Worms - Ella no quiere a los gusanos is not a typical book. It is a bilingual picture book about a girl who responds to unusual gifts--that happen to be alive. It comes with a pronunciation guide and full text in both English and Spanish (available in Spanish-only as well).
With creepy crawlies--made of findable foods by illustrator David Hollenbach--children and adults may re-read—trying the critter names in another language. Beckstrand's first bilingual book Crumbs on the Stairs - Migas en las escaleras has been purchased by schools and libraries across the country.
Beckstrand has 11 titles on Amazon.com and Kindle. Ask for his books at your favorite bookstore, or at Premiobooks.com.
