NB Design Group: Nancy Burfiend Takes on the Chair Project to Benefit Pratt Fine Arts Center

Principal of Seattle interior design firm teams up with well-known woodcarving artist to benefit a local arts center.

2011-04-16
SEATTLE, WA, April 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) Nancy Burfiend, principal of NB Design Group, teams up with wood-carving artist Steve Jensen in a special fund-raising mission: the Chair Project. Recently launched, the Chair Project is driven by the Seattle Design Center and pairs interior designer with artist to turn blank-canvas chairs into pieces of art. The chairs are to be auctioned on Aug. 19, 2011, with proceeds benefitting the Pratt Fine Arts Center.

"This project is a unique and collaborative way to bring together design professionals, artisans and students to raise funds benefitting the arts," says Burfiend.

Burfiend launched the award-winning Seattle-based NB Design Group in 1988 and has completed projects nationwide for both residential and commercial spaces. She teams up with woodcarving artist Jensen of Steve Jensen Studios to create a piece for the Chair Project that she says will "marry process, aesthetic and vision."

The completed artworks for the Chair Project are revealed at the 2011 Northwest Design Awards Gala on Feb. 17, 2011. The finished pieces will be on display the last two weeks of February 2011 in the downtown Seattle Nordstrom on Fifth and Pine. The Chair Project auction takes place on Aug. 19, 2011.

Proceeds for the Chair Project Auction go to the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle. The center's mission includes such principles as making art accessible to everyone and fostering artistic development through education, community programs and facilities.

The Chair Project is driven by the Seattle Design Center, founded in 1973. The Seattle Design Center is the only full-service design center in the Pacific Northwest and is recognized as a leading marketplace of fine home furnishings.
