Sister Soldier Project Returns to Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland
Delta Sigma Theta Hosts Historic Packing Party
GROVER BEACH, CA, April 18, 2011
On April 30, 2011, in celebration of the 85th anniversary of the Alpha Gamma Chapter at Morgan State University, the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will return from all over the country, gathering to participate with the national Sister Soldier Project in a very special Packing Party event for our Sister Soldiers overseas. The women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and friends will pack and ship 500 boxes to our "Sister Soldiers" overseas, containing ethnic hair care products, products unavailable to the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airwomen through normal channels overseas, plus other personal care and entertainment items. As a personal touch, each box is topped off with a handwritten note from the event, expressing gratitude for the soldier's service to our country. Participants will also include members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. who are current students and Alumni of Morgan State University, Student Volunteers from Morgan State University and other community volunteers.
This will be the largest Packing Party in the 4-year history of the Sister Soldier Project thanks to the generous donations and assistance of Luster Product's Pink Brand and Organic Root Stimulator.
The "Sister Soldier Project" was founded by Myraline Morris Whitaker and was born out of her desire to send "care packages" to the brave women serving our nation. Thanks to the generous support from many corporate sponsors, women's social groups and churches around the country, and individual donors, the Sister Soldier Project enables our service women to have a small taste of their "normal" lives back home. Since 2006, nearly 5000 such packages have been shipped to Sister Soldiers.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a public service sorority founded in 1913 by college women on the campus of Howard University, with a mission of "transforming lives and impacting communities". The Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc at Morgan State University was chartered on April 26, 1926 and is the oldest collegiate chapter in the state of Maryland.
The Sister Soldiers Project was born out of the desire to send "care packages" to the brave women serving our nation, containing various ethnic personal care products so important to their quality of life, products unavailable to them through normal channels, thus giving them at least a small taste of their "normal" lives back home.
