Earn Credit for Teen Summer Camp with Bags for Bucks Program from WB Surf Camp

WB Surf Camp is offering financial incentives to summer camp students in the new Bags for Bucks Program. The program challenges participants to pick up trash and recyclables in exchange for credit towards their camp tuition.

2011-04-20
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC, April 20, 2011 (Press-News.org) Over the past decade participants of all WB Surf Camp programs have collected thousands of pounds of trash off beaches all over the world. Last year alone their campers performed over 1,000 hours of community service during their summer. This year, WB Surf Camp strives to surpass that mark by encouraging students to volunteer in their own communities, earning credit towards their Surf Camp program tuition.

WB Surf Camp's Bags for Bucks program encourages campers to identify public areas that they wish to adopt, and over the course of weeks or months, they will collect trash in their community.

1. WB Surf Camp will sponsor returning campers for bags of trash collected.

2. Both returning campers and those new to WB Surf Camp can be sponsored by family and friends.

3. For each grocery bag of trash collected, they will receive money towards their summer camp tuition with the amount to be predetermined by the sponsor and the participant.

4. For specific details, visit http://blog.wbsurfcamp.com/index.php/wb-surf-camp-bags-for-bucks-program/.

Participants will post pictures of their accumulated trash on WB Surf Camp's Facebook page as a record of their work. Hopefully this will spark some healthy competition; and as an added incentive to encourage students, the participant that collects the most trash-filled bags will win a free spot in their week-long Wrightsville Beach Teen Overnight Camp - valued at $1,595!

"At WB Surf Camp, we are funded solely by our own achievements. The better we perform, the more we can fulfill our mission statement of environmental conservation," says founder Rick Civelli. "We want to pass along this philosophy to our participants, the next generation of ocean stewards, and encourage them to create positive change in their own backyards."

Trash and litter, no matter the location, have dire consequences for the local environment and our global oceans. The majority of marine debris comes from land-based sources, with large amounts of plastic and other products becoming concentrated in ocean gyres. "By getting involved in their own community, campers become part of the solution," says Civelli.

WB Surf Camp is currently accepting participants for their Bags for Bucks Program. For more information please contact WB Surf Camp at 910.256.7873.

About WB Surf Camp: WB Surf Camp also specializes in overnight Teen Camps and Summer Camps to destinations such as Hawaii, Barbados, Costa Rica, and California. For more information, visit http://www.wbsurfcamp.com/camps/camp_teen.asp.
