BOSTON, MA, April 20, 2011 (Press-News.org) SIMUL8 Corporation, producers of world leading simulation software, has launched a Secure Data edition of its flagship product, SIMUL8. The Secure Data edition will allow organizations to meet and exceed HIPAA legislation standards, ensuring patient confidentiality. This means the public can be sure their data is being kept securely and confidentially, while allowing information to be shared within healthcare organizations.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) set out to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the US healthcare system by encouraging the widespread use of electronic data interchange.
SIMUL8 simulation software is increasingly helping to solve healthcare problems all over the world. It has been used to reduce waiting times, improve efficiency and reduce costs in individual departments as well as across whole healthcare systems. The Secure Data edition can continue to improve their processes and meet the administration simplification provisions within HIPAA.
Claire Cordeaux, Lead for Healthcare from SIMUL8 Corporation said "It is clear that confidentiality needs to be maintained automatically when physicians and managers are using process improvement tools which draw directly from patient data. Integrating our simulation software with security processes saves a lot of analyst time and gives users confidence that the system is robust."
According to the results of a recent survey from the New York based Markle Foundation physicians and patients are in agreement about health information technology priorities such as data sharing and criteria for payment incentives.
The survey asked the opinion of the public and physicians about the deployment of health IT. Nearly three-quarters of participating physicians said they would like to be able to exchange patient information electronically. Additionally, 80% of patients and physicians said data-sharing requirements were important for co-ordinating care and reducing the likelihood of medical errors.
"By the same overwhelming margin, four in five doctors and patients expressed the importance of privacy protections for online medical records, an expectation we have repeatedly found on the part of the public in previous surveys" Said Dr Carol Diamond, Markle's Managing director. "This survey is a powerful indication that the public and physicians alike want investments in health IT to come with accountability."
