May 2011 Poet Local Event Features Stan Absher and Debra Kaufman

Triangle poets Stan Absher and Debra Kaufman will be featured at Living Poetry's final Poet Local event on Sunday, May 15th.

RALEIGH, NC, April 27, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Poet Local series explores poets' lives and writing styles. A Pushcart nominee, Absher's poems have appeared in 25 journals and anthologies. He has worked as an offset printer, missionary, bank teller, janitor, and consultant, sold mutual funds, surveyed scrub timberland,and taught freshman English in NC, hospital reimbursement in Taiwan, and a course on the ballad in Belize. His most recent poetry book Nightweather (Cynosaura) was published last year.

Kaufman is a poet and a playwright who has published a handful of poetry collections, Family of Strangers (Nightshade) and Still Life Burning (South Carolina Poetry Society), to name a few. Visitors will learn about Kaufman's approach to publishing her work, which has appeared in publications such as the Virginia Quarterly Review, Room of One's Own and Pembroke. Kaufman's latest book, The Next Moment (Jacar Press) was released in October 2010.

Together Absher and Kaufman co-host the monthly Second Thursday reading series at Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill.

This will be Living Poetry's last Poet Local event as they focus more on offering poetry to the Triangle-area in new and different ways. Living Poetry's events are free and open to the public.
