ATLANTA, GA, April 27, 2011 (Press-News.org) Key Motorsports driver Scott Wimmer is coming off his best finish of the season as he prepares for this weekends race at a track that has been one of the best in Wimmer‟s NASCAR Nationwide Series career. Wimmerslast Nationwide win came at Nashville, and in 13 race starts at the track, has led 109 laps and nine Top-10 finishes to his credit.
Wimmer, driver of the #40 Key Motorsports Chevy Malibu, finished 12th last weekend after starting in 41st position. He was able to Qualify in the 35th position, but had to move to the rear of the field due to changes the team had to make to the car while in post qualifying impound. Wimmer was twice the „Lucky Dog‟ on the day to remain on the lead lap, and improved an impressive 29 places from the start to the finish before an estimated 67,500 fans at the Aarons 312 at Talladega Superspeedway.
"We were able to stay out of trouble at Talladega. We ran a pretty conservative strategy and this time it went in our favor. I‟m really looking forward to the next couple weeks, I‟ve got a lot of time at Nashville and Richmond and think Curtis‟ guys will be able to put me in a position to get strong results assuming we continue to keep our nose clean out there" states Wimmer.
Wimmer was able to move up five spots in the Drivers Points Championship, now in 18th position with the Top-10 within site. Scott mentions; "I continue to think we‟re a Top-15 team and on a good day Top-10. My goal before the season started was to finish the season in the Top-10 in Driver Points, and if we can continue to develop the car and run strong, I feel confident we can get there". Curtis Key also moved up five spots in the Owners Championship to 27th, a position that guarantees a starting spot in this weekends race.
