NEW YORK, NY, April 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) David Tobey, a lifetime resident of Westchester County, NY and a violinist member of the Westchester Philharmonic, who's also a painter, sculptor & teacher in two New Rochelle schools performed on violin to an audience of 135 people at the Sixth Annual Treasures Gala "Honoring Our Community Partners" of The White Plains Library Foundation on Saturday, April 9th, 2011 at the library, 100 Martine Avenue in White Plains.
Honorees at the gala included James Benerofe and The Shirley G. Benerofe Foundation; the Westchester Library System; and Westchester Community College. At the event the Library and the Foundation also unveiled a First Floor Master Plan developed by architects Vitetta and Bermello Ajamil & Partners, which includes preliminary renderings for a special teen space to be called "The Edge." The Master Plan and rendering for The Edge are on display at the Library, and can also be viewed on the Library's website, http://www.whiteplainslibrary.org.
Attendees at the gala included White Plains Mayor Tom Roach and Common Council Members Ben Boykin, David Buchwald, Milagros Lecuona, Dennis Power, and Beth Smayda. Architects Rai Fernandez and James Rowe of Bermello Ajamil also were present, along with the awardees and library and foundation staff members.
At the beginning and wrap-up of the the festivities, violinist Tobey accompanied by pianist Kirk Ehrenreich performed Archangelo Corelli (1653-1713) La Folia, Violin Sonata in D Minor, op. 5 no. 12 and a rousing modern version of "Tango".
More than 50 of Tobey's paintings and sculptures will be on display in the library's Museum Gallery, on the second floor just adjacent to where the gala meeting was held, through June 15, 2011. The Friends of the White Plains Library and the White Plains Library Foundation will each receive 20% of the proceeds from all artwork sales for the run of the exhibition.
