PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) Recently there has been increased popularity in "hybrid" breeds, such as Goldendoodles, Cockapoos and Puggles. "Hybrids" mate two purebreds to create a breed that, in theory, results in the most desirable traits of each respective breed. While this breeding often produces adorable puppies, it also underscores the need for pet parents to understand that such breeding must be done properly to ensure optimum pet health.
"The concerns for hybrid dog breeding are the same as those for pure-breed dog breeding," says Dr. Jules Benson, Petplan's Vice President of Veterinary Services. "The worry is that that an increased demand for these "fashionable" breeds can lead to unscrupulous individuals profiteering by breeding dogs of poor genetic heritage in less than ideal conditions. However, that's very much the worst case scenario and, if someone is looking for a specific breed or mix, there are many conscientious breeders. The challenge is educating consumers on how to identify good breeders."
Benson cautions, "The small minority of irresponsible breeders make it imperative for pet parents to ask critical questions during the selection process. Petplan sees the effects of improper breeding in claims related to serious hereditary health issues, including hip dysplasia, heart disease and other developmental disorders. Long term, these conditions can lead to significant, unexpected veterinary bills for a pet parent."
Petplan - America's top-rated pet insurer - suggests asking these important questions for consideration when purchasing from a breeder:
• What are the breed's hereditary conditions? A breeder should be able to provide a detailed list of issues that have been observed or are to be expected. If not well-versed on this, you may need to reevaluate working with that breeder.
• Can you visit the breeder? Always visit the breeder to see the dogs "in situ." In fact, reputable breeders will usually require a meeting so that they can screen potential pet parents and will not sell their puppies through a pet store or over the internet. A breeder should not have a problem letting you see where the dogs are regularly kept - this should be a clean, well-maintained area.
• Can the breeder provide references? Reputable breeders should be able to provide you with numerous references from satisfied customers. Also ensure you take the time to research the breeder through the internet to make sure there are no "red flags" online.

Greensboro Tree Services Offers Advice When Trees Get Too Big
2011-04-29
Many people may not believe it but it is entirely possible for a tree to get too big. Premiere Tree Services of Greensboro informs that there are quite a few species of trees that can grow too big for a piece of property and cause a wide variety of problems.
The branches from a really big oak can easily grow right into a building such as a house and damage it. If the branches grow over the roof of a building they can cause real damage if they fall off. A big tree can also block out the sunlight from windows and solar panels.
If that wasn't bad enough tree branches ...
Hyperlogistics Group in Columbus, Ohio Welcomes the Completion of the Panama Canal Expansion Project

When the project is completed, the bottleneck of the existing canal will be removed and will accommodate today's modern, longer and wider ships, and will effectively double the volume of cargo travel to Panama each year. The East Coast ports are expanding ...
