Software Company Halfpricesoft.com Boosts First-quarter Sales 60% By Unique Marketing Strategy
2011-04-30
LOUISVILLE, KY, April 30, 2011 (Press-News.org) Halfpricesoft.com (www.halfpricesoft.com), the small business payroll tax solution provider, announced a 60 percent increase in sales over the first three months of 2010. The company credited this remarkable gain to a unique marketing strategy in which customers use the company's software for free.

"We were confident that the TrialPay partnerships would be good for business, but we had no idea that it would achieve such monumental results," said Halfpricesoft.com founder Dr. Ge. "A 60 percent increase in sales is just phenomenal."

After several years of lackluster sales, software developer Halfpricesoft.com discovered TrialPay. By partnering with TrialPay's advertisers, Halfpricesoft.com customers get free download and license key for the company's most popular software titles when they purchase goods and services from the advertisers. The advertisers pay for the software and license keys.

Halfpricesoft.com launched in 2003 with a focus on creating business software for small businesses that is easy to learn and affordable for small businesses yet full-featured. The company found it difficult to market software as a start-up, since customers were unfamiliar with the company, and sold only a handful of copies in its first year.

With the knowledge that their software offered features and capability comparable to high-end business software, Halfpricesoft.com offered a 30-day free trial period for its products believing that when users tried the software, they would realize the value offered by Halfpricesoft.com and purchase the full-use license. While the free trial period did increase sales, they remained far below expectations.

In 2008, the company produced a "Lite" version of its ezCheckPrinting software, with limited capabilities on some features, such as custom check designing. The company offered the new product for free on software download sites and supported it with an intense press release campaign.

"Everyone likes free stuff," said Dr. Ge. "When we launched ezCheckPrinting Lite for free, we suddenly started getting hundreds of downloads each month."

But while downloads of the free software were plentiful, conversions to the full-featured paid version were minimal. The search for an effective marketing solution continued.

Seeing that free software was popular with small-business customers, Dr. Ge and his team looked for a way to utilize this powerful marketing tool that would result in sales for their premium products. The answer came in late 2008 when they discovered TrialPay.

With TrialPay, Halfpricesoft.com is able to offer the full-featured premium version of ezCheckPrinting and its other software titles for free when customers purchase a product from another company. In 2009, the company ceased to offer the "lite" version of ezCheckPrinting and used TrialPay to offer the product for free at http://www.halfpricesoft.com/product_ezCheck.asp. TrialPay advertisers pay for the software when customers purchase their products or services.

"We sell thousands of copies each year now," said Dr. Ge. "It's a win-win-win-win situation: the customer gets free product, we make sales, the TrialPay advertiser makes sales, and TrialPay gets commissions."

Currently, Halfpricesoft.com offers several products for free through TrialPay, including:
- ezCheckPrinting, business version check writing and printing software
- ezCheckPersonal personal check writing software
- ezTimeSheet, computer-based time clock software for tracking employee hours
- blank check stock for use with ezCheckPrinting, ezPaycheck and ezCheckPersonal software
- stock for printing W2, W3, 1099 and 1096 forms

Don't Let Breast Implants Keep You From Breastfeeding

2011-04-30
Neither saline nor silicone breast implants have been shown to interfere with breastfeeding, although concern over the possibility of silicone seeping into breast milk has caused some women with silicone breast implants to avoid nursing. The FDA has found no link between silicone breast implants and a risk for nursing infants, and women with breast implants are encouraged to follow the guidelines by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that women who are able to breastfeed do so for at least the first six months of a baby's life. In fact, the AAP issued a statement ...

Investigational agent shows promise in reducing spread of prostate cancer

2011-04-30
Washington, DC – A drug developed to treat Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare childhood cancer, may also help prevent human prostate cancer from spreading, as seen in new lab studies say researchers at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, a part of Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). Published online April 29 in PLoS ONE, the researchers report that if the agent continues to work well in further laboratory and preclinical studies, it may be the first prostate cancer drug specifically designed to stop cancer spread, or metastasis. "This agent does not kill ...

2011-04-30
Learn More About Florida's Child Abduction Prevention Act Florida's landmark Child Abduction Prevention Act (CAPA) was signed into law in January of this year. It is designed to give courts more power to act upon suspicions that a parent embroiled in a child custody dispute might attempt to take the child and flee to another state or country. The law was authored and championed not by a lawmaker but by a Florida mom, Carolyn Vlk. She found herself in the unenviable position of a hotly contested divorce and feared that her husband -- a native of the Czech Republic ...

Mayo Clinic finds robotic surgery effective for removing hard-to-reach throat cancer

2011-04-30
ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Robotic surgery has become a mainstream tool for removing an ever-increasing variety of head and neck tumors. Now, a team of head and neck surgeons from Mayo Clinic has found robotic surgery can treat cancer in the narrow, hard-to-reach area beyond the tongue at the top of the voice box. Some patients were able to avoid further treatment with chemotherapy or radiation, and most could resume normal eating and speaking. "We've known it's useful for tongue base and tonsil cancers, but we wanted to assess its effectiveness in the larynx," says Kerry ...

The rewards of doing 'something'

2011-04-30
People don't really care what they're doing—just as long as they are doing something. That's one of the findings summarized in a new review article published in Current Directions in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. When psychologists think about why people do what they do, they tend to look for specific goals, attitudes, and motivations. But they may be missing something more general - people like to be doing something. These broader goals, to be active or inactive, may have a big impact on how they spend their time. Author ...
