MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, May 10, 2011 (Press-News.org) Australia's equestrian Olympic hopefuls are set to go head to head at the 2011 Melbourne International Three-Day Event (MI3DE), which takes place next month.
The MI3DE is now in its 54th year, making it the longest running tournament of its kind in the southern hemisphere. In this time, it has developed a prestigious reputation for providing the country's best riders and horses with top-level competition.
Three-day eventing consists of cross country, dressage and show jumping, making it one of the most exciting equestrian sports for spectators and a challenge for entrants.
Melbourne's competition has been granted a three-star rating, meaning it is only surpassed in difficulty by the World Equestrian Games and Olympic Games.
A World Cup Dressage qualifier will also be held at this year's event, with the top performers in line for a place at the 2012 Olympics.
The MI3DE runs from June 9th to 13th at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre, just 30 minutes from Melbourne's central business district.
Season passes for the competition are priced at AU$91 for adults, AU$46.50 for three to 15-year-olds and AU$204 for families of five.
Horse lovers looking for Melbourne hotels can find a wide array of cheap accommodation near the National Equestrian Centre at LateRooms.com.au.
