The arrival of a new baby can be very stressful for our pets, and many become worried by the sound of babies crying and the changes in routine. This exciting product is a CD based training product, which includes useful training advice to make the introductions as smooth as possible, such as helping the pet become accustomed to the sounds of babies and children, teaching dogs not to jump up at the baby and most importantly helping the pet to accept the new baby without feeling left out. This ultimately ensures that the infant stays safe and the pet remains relaxed. The programme was developed by internationally renowned veterinary surgeons Sarah Heath and Jon Bowen who exclusively treat pets with behavioural problems. "The arrival of a new baby is an exciting time for the whole family but if you haven't prepared your pet it can be confusing for them," explains Sarah. "In 2009 approximately 110,000 dogs were recovered as strays after being abandoned1 and some of these cases are thought to have been related to the arrival of a new baby in the home; this figure is believed to have risen over the last year. With the media highlighting stories of children being bitten by dogs, we designed this CD package to teach owners how to socialise their pets with infants and prevent unnecessary heartache for pets and owners alike."
Jon adds: "Approximately 23% of households in the UK own a dog2 and a similar number own a cat (19%)3. With around 700,000 babies being born in the UK each year4 there are lots of families who can potentially benefit from this product."
