TermWiki, the New Social Learning Network, celebrates its one-year birthday.

2011-05-13
BEIJING, CHINA, May 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) CSOFT International Ltd., a leading provider of multilingual localization, testing, and software development services for the global market, celebrates today the one year birthday of TermWiki, the world's very first multilingual social learning network, now featuring over one million terms for 1200 domains and 75+ languages.

"It's a well-deserved celebration for the entire TermWiki community," says Shunee Yee, CEO and President of CSOFT. "With the help of everyone's contributions and collaboration, an extraordinary foundation has been laid down for collectively sharing knowledge among the world community of the future. TermWiki is an amazing tool for anyone who is passionate about learning, sharing, translating, and being a part of a warm and worldwide community... We are thrilled to be able to provide people with this resource!"

TermWiki began as a multilingual terminology management platform in which users naturally started forming topic-based cliques and communities. In this way the system eventually evolved into what it is today: a social learning network that combines the best of two worlds—a wealth of reference material, like Wikipedia, and a platform to meet new people, like Facebook—to create a collaborative and interactive learning network for users all around the world. Now with over one million terms across 75 languages, TermWiki has vastly expanded in breadth and depth of its content since its early days.

The site's most basic service is its encyclopedic functions, which offer users instant access to concise and relevant information grouped in over 1,200 different domains. Furthermore, powered by TermWiki's contributor-aware collaborative model, members of the community are able to work together to revise and amend terms, definitions and translations, with each contribution further perfecting the quality of the site's information.

Over the past year, TermWiki has released a number of targeted features to address the needs of their users from different backgrounds and industries. For content developers and translators, TermWiki's My Glossary module allows users to input, store, edit, and share their glossaries online; additionally, the TermWiki Workbench is ideal for bulk-translating terms within a particular subject, and the Reviewer Workbench allows anyone to easily edit exiting terms and content with efficiency.

For the more social community members, the TermWiki Forum gives people a dedicated place to expand on ideas, discuss topics of interest, and converse with their peers in a more intimate setting. And if users can't find what they are looking for within TermWiki's database or on the forums, one of TermWiki's newest features, AnswerBea, can help point them in the right direction through a simple yet powerful question-and-answer engine driven by the community.

The one-year anniversary is an important milestone in TermWiki's global expansion. Every step of the development process has been incredible learning experience," says Carl Yao, Executive Vice President for Global Strategy at CSOFT. "Our goal since the very beginning has been to have every term in the world defined and translated into all languages while providing the online community with a simple, efficient, and useful platform to learn, share and get connected with others with similar interests. The sheer number of new members over the past few months has demonstrated that TermWiki has not only met this objective, but built strong momentum for even faster growth. We are excited for this historical moment, and we are equally as excited about the future direction of the site. Make sure to keep your eyes open for all the new features we have in store for TermWiki's worldwide community over the next coming year."
