New Program Helps Teens Break Free from ED

Mirasol Eating Disorder Recovery Centers is expanding its acclaimed integrative residential program for eating disorders to include teen girls ages 12 to 17.

2011-05-18
TUCSON, AZ, May 18, 2011 (Press-News.org) Mirasol Eating Disorder Recovery Centers is expanding its acclaimed integrative residential program for eating disorders to include teen girls ages 12 to 17. Like Mirasol's adult program, Mirasol Teen combines CBT and DBT with a wide variety experiential therapies, including art therapy, equine therapy, dance/movement therapy, and neurofeedback.

"Our new new adolescent program is very exciting and very cutting edge," says Mirasol founder and CEO Jeanne Rust, PhD. "Adolescent clients will receive five to six neurofeedback sessions per week, and the results are truly astonishing! Depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, OCD and other conditions that often co-occur with eating disorders all respond dramatically to neurofeedback."

Experiential therapies will be expanded for the adolescent population, including camping trips, challenge courses, hiking, and even caving. All clients participate in weekly sessions in low-flying single point trapeze, a form of dance/movement therapy that builds spatial awareness, trust and cooperation.

The adolescent program includes a full year of aftercare with telephone, text, voice or video support. The Mirasol aftercare therapist works closely with the home therapist to monitor the client's progress and provide the support she needs to stay on the path to recovery.

"We want the teens who complete our program to achieve not only a dramatic reduction in eating disorder behaviors, but also a significant reduction in depression and anxiety" says Rust. "We want them to leave our program with well-tuned brains that are capable of learning all the tasks they need to become successful adults."

If you would like to learn more about Mirasol's new integrative adolescent eating disorder treatment program, please visit http://www.mirasol.net or call 800.520.1700.
