PHILADELPHIA, PA, May 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (PCMS) is pleased to announce the 2011/2012 Comcast Chamber Music Series, featuring exceptional ensembles from home and abroad along with the Philadelphia premiere of Godfrey's Ricordanza-speranza.
The Tokyo Quartet, using exceptional Stradivarius instruments known as 'The Paganini Quartet', will be joined by pianist Jeremy Denk for works by Haydn, Grieg and Franck. On tour from Israel, the Jerusalem Quartet brings a vibrant energy to an all-Shostakovich program. The Elias Quartet will travel from England for a program including Suk, Janacek and Dvorak. The Artemis Quartet, praised for their "fullness of sound, delineated structure and unparalleled drama," will present Haydn, Dutilleux and Schubert Quartets.
The brilliant Ying Quartet joins the distinguished and honored Menahem Pressler (founder of the Beaux Arts Trio) on piano for a performance of Arensky, Shostakovich and Dvorak. The young and energetic Daedalus Quartet performs Haydn and Dvorak. They will perform the Philadelphia premiere of Godfrey's Ricordanza-speranza with pianist Natalie Zhu. The first tour of Musicians from Marlboro will showcase the finest musicians from the summer festival in Vermont with a repertoire of Mozart, Bridge and Mendelssohn.
The unparalleled Emerson Quartet opens the Series with an all-Mozart program. An all-Schubert program will be performed by violinist Ida Levin, cellist Peter Stumpf and pianist Cynthia Raim. The remarkable Orion Quartet will be joined by violist Ida Kavafian for works by Mozart, Brahms and Mendelssohn. Pianist Lydia Artymiw will guest with the Miami Quartet to perform Dohnanyi's Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 26 along with a Beethoven and Schubert. The Juilliard Quartet will return a second time this season with a program of Stravinsky, Janacek and Mozart.
The Comcast Chamber Music Series will be held at the intimate Perlman Theater at the American Philosophical Society. Local food and drinks will be available through selected suppliers.
