MILAN, ITALY, May 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Teatro alla Scala in Milan will host a series of performances of Jewels, the three-part production by George Balanchine.
It was inspired by the jewellery of Claude Arpels and is made up of three parts: Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds.
Running until May 26th 2011, the show includes Paul Connelly on conducting duties and Roberto Cominati on the piano.
The dancers are dressed in costumes covered in jewels and the action aims to interpret the splendour and glamour of such stones, rather than relying on a conventional story.
In a statement on Milan's official tourism website, the organisers said: "Emeralds recalls the 19th century melodies of Faure; Rubies, the music of Stravinsky, whereas Diamonds evokes the grandeur of Imperial Russia and the music of Tchaikovsky."
The performance is about two hours long, with evening shows starting at 20:00 local time and a matinee on Sunday May 22nd beginning at 15:00.
Tickets range from EUR12 up to EUR185 (GBP10.45 to GBP161.40).
