This year marks the Massachusetts Bar Association's 100th anniversary, and throughout the year the MBA will be celebrating a century of service to the public. That proud history includes serving people of Massachusetts through the MBA/ Massachusetts Bar Institute Elder Law Education program.
The MBA recognizes that the "golden years" for many elders are indeed rarely "golden." Instead, these years can prove to be difficult, and often the most challenging, as elders face ever-changing, complex and confusing laws.
The Elder Law Education Program presentation by estate planning Attorney Anthony Gemma is designed to assist in your understanding of many of the important principles and practices that govern elder law. Topics will include Frequently Asked Questions about estate planning and elder law, VA Aid and Attendance Benefits overview, Medicaid as a source of funding for long term nursing home care, an overview of reverse mortgages and real estate tax exemptions and deferrals.
The presentation will go for approximately one hour, followed by questions from those in attendance.
The speaker, Attorney Anthony Gemma, practices in the areas of estate planning, elder law and probate. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), the Massachusetts Chapter of NAELA, WealthCounsel (a national estate planning organization), the Norfolk and Plymouth Estate and Business Planning Council, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Massachusetts and Federal Bar. Attorney Gemma is a graduate of Boston College (B.A. 1984) and Boston College Law School (J.D. 1988). Attorney Gemma is of the Gemma Law Office, P.C., 10 Forbes Road, Suite 410W, Braintree, MA, 02184.
The presentation will be an informative overview of areas of law important for elders to understand. However, no presentation can replace the necessity of meeting one on one with an attorney who can review your existing estate plan or help you create one to be certain is up to date and meets your personal goals, whether they be to avoid probate, provide for a disabled child or protect assets should you move to a nursing facility.
The MBA as an organization and as individual attorneys, is dedicated to helping you navigate through these elder years empowered by knowledge. We look forward to seeing you at the May 23, 2011 presentation.
