Homeland Security TV Video Awards Announces Prestigious Panel of Judges

Judges Include Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey, Other High-Profile Security Experts and New Media Professionals

BURKE, VA, May 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) Dan Verton, Producer and Founder of Homeland Security Television (www.hstvchannel.com), today announced the judges for his firm's inaugural HSTV Ideas for a Secure Tomorrow video competition (www.hstvchannel.com/contest). This video competition aims to find the best ideas for improving security at both the local and national level, and the lineup of judges is a prestigious panel of professionals from the Homeland Security field, including law enforcement, homeland security, and strategic communications subject matter experts.

Open to amateur videographers, the HSTV IDEAS competition entries are due by August 1, 2011, and will be judged by a panel of high-profile security experts and new media professionals, taken from HSTV's Editorial Advisory Board and independent experts from both the homeland security and filmmaking industry.

R. James Woolsey, Chairman, Foundation for Defense of Democracies and Former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, is among the group of expert judges. Woolsey has also worked in various other foreign policy and security positions in Democratic and Republican administrations and after his government service became chairman of Freedom House. Michael Day, a past winner of the D.C. film festival, is another of the elite judges. His production credits include work for National Geographic, America's Most Wanted and the American Red Cross. Jonathan Fleming, Former Chief Operating Officer, U.S. Transportation Security Administration, CEO S2 Global Inc. brings significant expertise from the Homeland Security arena in his role as judge for this unique video competition.

Additional judges include Charlotte Franklin, Deputy Coordinator of Arlington County Virginia Office of Emergency Management; Kay Goss, Senior Principal and Senior Advisor for Emergency Management and Continuity Programs, SRA International; Christopher Hinn, Former Senior Middle East Advisor, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Sandy Levine, President and CEO of Advice Unlimited LLC; Roger London, Chairman, American Security Challenge; Yusef Muhammad, President & Chief of Operations, Black Broadcasting Network; Kiersten Todt Coon, Partner, Good Harbor Consulting; Dan Verton, Executive Producer, Homeland Security Television; and Darlene Sparks Washington, Former Director of Preparedness, American Red Cross.

This distinguished panel of professionals is looking forward to judging the HSTV IDEAS entries. The ten finalists will be named and honored on HSTV Channel, with a Second Place runner-up and a Grand Prize winner, to be announced on September 12, 2011.
