NORTHPORT, NY, May 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) Secure Decisions, a division of Applied Visions, Inc. and developer of visual analytic tools for cyber defense, has taken residence in the Morrelly Homeland Security Center in Bethpage, NY as a Resident Research Partner. The Morrelly Center is owned and operated by the Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security (the Foundation). The Foundation has been bringing together public and private organizations to accelerate research and development of technology for local and state first responders and law enforcement. Among Secure Decisions' initiatives at the Foundation is the advancement and adaptation of its security visualization technology to help security forces protect critical assets against cyber threats.
"As a Resident Research Partner, Secure Decisions is broadening the capabilities of the Foundation to address our homeland security needs" said Frank Otto, president, Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security. "We look forward to working with the company in transitioning their cyber security and visualization technology to help protect our Country and State's critical infrastructures, as they have done for the U.S. military and commercial enterprises."
One of the first projects Secure Decisions is working on with the Foundation is called "WildCAT". Under the WildCAT project, funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Secure Decisions is developing new capabilities for detecting rogue wireless access points near high-value targets. Secure Decisions is adapting its wireless security visualization product, MeerCAT , to help security teams analyze wireless intrusion detection data collected by patrol cars. MeerCAT was initially developed for the U.S. military and intelligence community, and is currently used within the U.S. government and IT security enterprises.
"We have been working in the cybersecurity domain for over 12 years and continue to see an increase in the frequency and complexity of threats to our nation's critical assets," said Dr. Anita D'Amico, Director at Secure Decisions. "To get ahead of the threats, we have an obligation to collaborate and invest in new cyber security technologies. We are pleased to be a Resident Research Partner at the Morrelly Center that brings together industry and academic institutions to achieve these goals."
