IRVINE, CA, September 15, 2010 (Press-News.org) O .C. Japan Fair, a street festival introducing contemporary and traditional Japanese culture, is coming back for the second time to Orange County on Sunday, September 26th, 2010, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., at the Great Irvine Park in Irvine. The festival celebrated its inaugural event last November with over 50 booths and more than 10,000 attendees. This year's festival will be even bigger, with double the amount of participating vendors (over 100 booths) and with more attendees coming to experience all the fun, food and entertainment.
The main theme of this year's fair is "Irvine Edo Mura (Irvine Edo Village)", which is inspired from "Nikko Edo Mura", one of the most popular theme parks in Japan where visitors can experience attractions from the great Samurai era. Edo is the former name of the Japanese capital Tokyo and was the seat of power for the Tokugawa shogunate ("Shoguns") which ruled Japan from 1603 to 1868. This "Edo" reproduced in Irvine will showcase not only the authentic Japanese culture and art of the past, but also the exciting street fashion and style of today's modern Japan.
Major attractions include the "Kurosawa Museum", a special exhibit showcasing Japanese legendary movie producer Akira Kurosawa's memorabilia and rare footage. Kurosawa is known for the movie "Seven Samurai", which inspired the production of the Western masterpiece "The Magnificent Seven". It is the 100th birthyear of Kurosawa and the exhibit will feature the history of the Japanese movie legend to honor and celebrate this special anniversary.
On the stage, a variety of performance acts are scheduled all through-out the day. Among those is a live Sumie performance (Japanese traditional water color art) by the Sumie master, Toyokuni Honda. This award winning Japanese artist will draw a dynamic Sumie on a huge 8' x 15' canvas in front of the audience, to the music of a powerful taiko drum.
A wide variety of food and vendor booths will offer something for everyone to enjoy. There will even be a raffle for prizes, including a round trip ticket to Japan.
The Fair is organized by Japan America Media Association and Big Mountain Corporation in Orange County. In the words of president David Lee, "We're excited to have this event again, with an even bigger scale this year. So many people in the community came and enjoyed and supported the inaugural event, and this made it possible to produce an even more exciting, more fun 'Japan' experience this year. We hope to see as many smiles and feel many uprising spirits on the day of the event."
Gates will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine. It's a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with the family before the summer is over, exploring Japan from the convenience of the Orange County Irvine Great Park. For more event info, go to http://www.OCJapanfair.com
