INDUSTRY, CA, May 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) As construction charges ahead on North Laurel, Maryland's new 45 acre multi-service recreation center, California-based Spohn Ranch is making great progress on their latest East Coast design/build project, the park's 12,000 square foot concrete skatepark.
Collaborating with local landscape architects, Mahan Rykiel, Spohn Ranch's design process combined public design workshops and social media interfaces for a robust dialogue with the local skateboarding community. Their final design speaks to a diverse set of stakeholders, including up-and-coming street skaters, seasoned bowl shredders and community members who can appreciate the park's sculptural and aesthetic quality. This unique venue features a complex bowl, an array of ledge combinations and three large skateable boulders!
While the 63,000 square foot community center is scheduled to open in early June, completion of Howard County's new state-of-the-art skatepark is currently anticipated for mid-July.
Spohn Ranch is a nationally-recognized contractor specializing in the design and construction of cutting-edge skateable landscapes. Spohn Ranch's deep roots in skateboarding originate with the first X-Games in 1995, when they were hired by ESPN to design and build the competition courses. After launching skateboarding into the mainstream with the X-Games, Spohn Ranch has helped hundreds of communities across the globe achieve their skatepark dreams.
