SAN JOSE, CA, May 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) Project Navigator, Ltd.'s (Brea, CA) solar project development team, announced today plans to accelerate expansion to East Coast markets. PV Navigator (PVN) is a leader in developing commercial scale, distributed PV Solar installations on closed landfills and Brownfield sites.

In addition to current projects in New Jersey and Delaware, PV Navigator plans to participate in RFPs regarding New York City's plan to install PV solar facilities on thousands of acres of the City' s landfill space.

TheCity's landfills are capped and monitored to protect the environment and the health of its residents. PV Navigator possesses specific expertise in developing PV solar on landfill systems.PVN will propose and design PV installations that will not compromise or damage the landfills environmental management systems such as gas recovery, leachate management, and long-term space monitoring.

"We were pleased to hear Mayor Bloomberg's announcement prioritizing solar to reclaim previously unusable landfill space in New York," said Dr. Ian Webster, President of PNL. "Although the plan for solar is straightforward, implementing a streamlined process to address complex "solar-on-landfill-cap" engineering and development requirements is challenging. We specialize in providing designs which ensure that solar facilities on landfills and Brownfields are constructible, reliable, and economically viable as well as facilitating a minimal-impact solar installation."

Project Navigator and solar manufacturer, SunPods Inc., are currently developing a 2 megawatt (MW) PV solar installation on the landfill cap at the County of San Bernardino's Big Bear Sanitary Landfill, in Big Bear, California as well as several megawatt of capacity for similar systems now in the design and permitting phases across the U.S.

"The permitting and engineering challenges at the Big Bear Landfill PV solar development made it logical for SunPods to team with Project Navigator, Ltd," said Michael Gumm, Managing Parnter of San Jose, California based SunPods Inc., "We bring complementary capabilities to the landfill solar development business space. The Big Bear project will be the first of its kind installed on a landfill in Southern California."
