McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.'s "Heart Hats" Program Honored with a People Helping People Award

The Sacramento Community Services Planning Council has recognized McCarthy's Heart Hats Program for its commitment to volunteerism.

2011-05-26
ST. LOUIS, MO, May 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. (www.mccarthy.com) received a distinguished People Helping People (PHP) Award from the Sacramento Community Services Planning Council. The PHP Awards recognize excellence in community service. Eleven honorees were selected from a field of 68 nominees. McCarthy was the winner in the "Hands On Sacramento" category, which honors encouragement of employee volunteerism, for its "Heart Hats" program.

"Heart Hats has become an important symbol of the company culture at McCarthy," said Rich Henry, president of McCarthy's Northern Pacific Division. "We go beyond financially supporting worthy causes and regularly contribute our time and craftsman skills to improving the quality of life in our communities - from renovations at the Ronald McDonald House to collecting the diapers and baby supplies for local family programs. McCarthy's commitment as a company for hands-on community service is apparent due to the passion and drive of all of our employees - and this award is for them."

McCarthy's Heart Hats program encourages, supports and recognizes employees' volunteer efforts for a variety of causes to ensure real needs are being met in communities where employees work, live and play. The company encourages employees to take one paid full-day off from work annually to participate in its Heart Hats Community Day. The day enables employees at every level to contribute their skills to aid local organizations in need. McCarthy's volunteerism also extends beyond Community Day. In recent years, volunteers have helped to affect tangible, lasting change at a number of regional organizations throughout the Sacramento area, including the Center for Fathers and Families, Placer County Food Bank, HomeAid, Susan G. Komen, the Ronald McDonald House, and the St. Vincent De Paul Society of Roseville, among others.

About the People Helping People Awards

The People Helping People Awards have been presented by the Community Services Planning Council since 1989. The awards honor businesses, civic organizations and individuals for exceptional community service. The awards luncheon is held annually during National Volunteer Week and serves to promote volunteerism and service in the Sacramento region. Proceeds from the awards luncheon support two CSPC programs: Hands On Sacramento, a program that inspires and empowers people to change lives and the community through a meaningful volunteer action, and 2-1-1 Sacramento, a free, confidential 24/7 information and referral service, helping people every day of the year find the resources and services they need for themselves and their families.

About the Community Services Planning Council

Founded in 1939, the Community Services Planning Council (CSPC) helps people turn ideas into community action through information, planning, civic engagement and advocacy for human needs in the Sacramento region.
