Internet Entrepreneur Turned Philanthropist Jesse Willms Sponsors 135 Children Through World Vision

Internet entrepreneur turned philanthropist Jesse Willms currently sponsors 135 World Vision children and plans to sponsor more than 200 children by the end of the year.

2010-09-16
EDMONTON, AB, September 16, 2010 (Press-News.org) As of Thursday Sept. 16, Jesse Willms has helped 135 children facing poverty in third-world countries through the renowned World Vision charitable organization.

Perhaps, even more importantly, Willms says he's not done yet - and hopes to have sponsored 200 or more children by the end of the year.

"I am proud to be able to partner with World Vision and do my small part in helping them in their goal to make poverty a thing of the past for children whose lives are endangered every day by their economic conditions," Willms said.

World Vision is an international faith-based charity that provides food, shelter and medicine to children who have fallen victim to poverty due to war, famine, refugee status or other causes beyond their control.

They allow their partners to sponsor individual children and track the positive effects their donations have made. When he first discovered World Vision, Jesse Willms immediately sponsored 100 children. He has been sponsoring an additional child every day since.

"I will continue to work with World Vision into the future, and I will keep sponsoring at least seven children a week," Willms said. "Waking up every day and knowing I will be able to help another child who is not as fortunate as I was growing up, helps give meaning to my life."

Willms is an Internet marketing professional turned philanthropist. He started making money online when he was 16 years old; by the time he was 22 he had launched several Internet businesses.

This summer he was inspired when he saw Bill Gates and Warren Buffett encourage successful business people to donate money to charities in order to help the global community.

"I realized that I was one of the lucky people in the world who could help make a difference," Willms said. "I give to charity not only because I want to help other people, but also because I want to encourage more members of the community to donate as well."

Since then Willms has given to many charities including the Kiva Foundation, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Canada, Samaritan's Purse and Boston Children's Hospital, among others.

"I try to focus my giving on charities that help women and children," Willms said. "We need to support the most vulnerable segments of our population first."

Willms said he plans to partner with additional charities in the near future, and will make an announcement when he does so.
