GOLDEN GATE FIELDS, CA, June 04, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Bay Area will have a distinct Latin feel this weekend when Golden Gate Fields combines horse races with a celebration of Hispanic contributions to Bay Area history in Sunday's Fiesta Hispana.
Horse racing fans in the Bay Area will see the Golden Gate Fields horse track come alive with the sites and sounds of Hispanic Heritage Day, which will include live music from La Incomparable Banda Tierra Del Sol, laugh-out-loud entertainment from the clown troupe La Tropa de Payosos, and of course horse races.
This event honoring the Hispanic influence on Bay Area history is open to all residents of the Bay Area and is hosted by Telemundo, 93.3 La Raza, and Golden Gate Fields.
Along with betting on the horse races and enjoying the entertainment, residents of the Bay Area will have the ability to strike it rich with the Telemundo Money Machine, and they can kick start their soccer skills with the San Jose Earthquakes.
All of the Fiesta Hispana events will be held in conjunction with the race track's Dollar Day Sunday. Every Sunday during the racing season some of the track's most requested and useful items are only $1 apiece, including general admission, general parking, a program for that day's horse races, a hot dog, a beer and a soda.
Residents of the Bay Area are encouraged to bring the whole family to dance the day away and enjoy the horse races. Golden Gate Fields can also accommodate groups wishing to attend Hispanic Heritage Day. To learn more about group packages for Fiesta Hispana or any other race day, call 1-866-928-RACE (7223).

About Golden Gate Fields
Golden Gates Fields, Northern CaliforniaEUR s premier horse racing facility and one of the true sports landmarks of Bay Area history, commenced its first meeting on Feb. 1, 1941. Due to poor track conditions caused by heavy rains, the inaugural meeting lasted only five days. AmericaEUR s involvement in World War II meant racing at the track wouldnEUR t resume for six years, and the track became a naval amphibious landing craft base.
Golden Gate Fields reopened on Sept. 9, 1947, and since has hosted many of the sportsEUR greatest thoroughbred horses, jockeys and horse races. The great Bill Shoemaker, who would go on to win 11 Triple Crown races, scored his first career victory at Golden Gate Fields on April 20, 1949, aboard Shafter V. He retired 41 years later with 8,833 wins.
Through the years champion horses like Citation (1948 Horse of the Year), Noor (Handicap Horse of 1950), Determine (1954 Kentucky Derby winner), John Henry (Horse of the Year in 1981 and 1984), Brown Bess (Female Grass Horse of 1989), Tight Spot (Grass Horse of 1991), and Lost in the Fog (Sprinter of 2005) have competed at Golden Gate Fields.
Golden Gate Fields features an elegant Turf Club, a vast and comfortable Club House, smart simulcast rooms for betting on horse races across the nation, and plenty of free seating in the general admission areas, all of which will be open to residents of the Bay Area.
