Over 400 Stevens-Henager College Graduates Prepare for Ceremony on June 10

One graduate uses her degree to go from hotel jobs to healthcare career

2011-06-05
SALT LAKE CITY, UT, June 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) Graduates from Stevens-Henager College's Salt Lake City/Murray campus will don caps and gowns on Friday, June 10, to receive their college diplomas. The graduates join the thousands of alumni who have received career training from Stevens-Henager through degree programs in business, graphic arts, healthcare, and information technology.

The program will commence with a special keynote address from Val Overson, former lieutenant governor and Utah state auditor.

Among the outstanding graduates is Cozann Johnson, who is graduating with honors from the medical specialties program. Prior to enrolling at Stevens-Henager College, Johnson spent 10 years at what she calls "dead-end" jobs in hotels. After caring for her father while he had cancer, Johnson discovered she had a passion for helping people. Though she was an adult student with five teenage children, Johnson was determined to earn her degree and pursue a career within the healthcare industry.

"There were a few times when I thought I would quit. I would think, 'I could be earning money to take care of my family,' but my husband always encouraged me to stay. I knew I was doing this to better not only my life, but my family's life," said Johnson.

Johnson also gives credit to the staff at Stevens-Henager for creating the type of supportive environment she needed to complete her degree. Johnson was hired by the University of Utah Greenwood Clinic after completing her externship there.
