From Wind Breaks to Gate Posts: New, limited edition, fine art prints by Andrew Macara from Red Rag Gallery.

Following his successful solo exhibition at the Red Rag Gallery in November 2010, the Gallery is pleased to announce the launch of a new series of limited edition, fine art prints by the artist Andrew Macara.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND, June 06, 2011

Macara's unique insight and distinctive, joyful representation of life and, especially, the British countryside is captured in the three high quality, Giclee fine art, limited edition prints now being released by Red Rag Gallery.

The three initial prints are from Andrew Macara's collection of British scenes, one 'Wind Breaks' represents his well-known, intimate depiction of seaside sun and fun; and two represent his classic and wonderfully light, winter scenes - 'Two Gates' and 'Stone Posts'.

Andrew has an extensive and varied body of work created over more than three decades and has painted many different subjects over the years. He has a unique capacity - whatever the subject - to capture the essence of a scene with apparent ease, excluding extraneous detail. Yet his work is full of light, life, colour, movement, atmosphere and space; and helps us to see anew - it has been said that "his paintings celebrate life and show us a new way of seeing; this quality is that which underlies all true art".

Carole Teagle, Red Rag Gallery Manager at Stow, said, "Andrew is an outstanding contemporary artist and it is a privilege for us to be presenting these beautiful new limited edition prints that so wonderfully reflect the life, joy and light of the original paintings."

Andrew Macara was born in Derbyshire in 1944. He studied briefly under Leonard Fuller at the St Ives School of Painting but considers himself principally a self-taught artist. He was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1981; and to the New English Art Club in 1984. He received an Honourable Mention at the Paris Salon in 1973; and, among other awards, won the De Laszlo Medal and the Davis Slade Medal at the RBA in 1985, has been Bernard Dunstan's and Sir Hugh Wheldon's choice at the RA Summer Exhibition, Lord Palumbo's choice at the Discerning Eye Exhibition and Anish Kapoor's choice at the Nottingham Open. He won the Worshipful Company of Painter Stainers' Prize in 2008.

Andrew has exhibited widely throughout the UK. He is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal Society of British Artists and the New English Art Club; as well as continuing his long-term involvement with the Derby Sketching Club. He has fulfilled many commissions, several associated with his home town of Derby as well as for Sir Anthony and Lady Bamford, the Scott Bader Company and four paintings of the Party Conference Towns for the New Parliamentary Building, Westminster. Lloyds TSB has selected him for their Olympic Arts Programme (which will help raise funds for young British Athletes in preparation for the London 2012 Olympics).

Many Macara paintings have been reproduced in publications, prints and greetings cards; and recently he has been the subject of a biography by Jonathan Riley (Andrew Macara, Construction Arts Ltd. 2009). Andrew's work is held in private, public and corporate collections.

The three Macara Giclee fine art prints are now available. Each print is in a limited edition series of 95; and is available unmounted, mounted or framed. Wind Breaks is 31 x 42 cm; Two Gates is 36 x 42 cm; Stone Posts is 36 x 42 cm.
