Peacock Keller Receives Washington County Community Foundation Inaugural Excellence Award for Corporate Philanthropy

Southwestern Pennsylvania Nonprofit Names Award in Honor of Peacock Keller Founding Partner Charles Keller

WASHINGTON, PA, June 11, 2011 (Press-News.org) On May 19, 2011, the Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) honored the Peacock Keller law firm with its inaugural Excellence Award for Corporate Philanthropy at their annual Legacy Celebration. The award recognizes the law firm's tradition of exemplary giving and community service. WCCF also announced that the award would be named the Charles C. Keller Excellence Award for Corporate Philanthropy in honor of Peacock Keller Senior Counsel, Charles C. Keller. A founding partner of the firm, Keller is well known for his longstanding dedication to community service both at home and abroad. He is best known for his involvement with Rotary International for which he previously served as president.

The Charles C. Keller Excellence Award for Corporate Philanthropy will be presented each year to a local for-profit business that demonstrates an outstanding record of giving and community service. The award criteria includes: a company philosophy of community service; encouragement of employee commitment at multiple levels of the company; donation of resources including financial, personnel, facility or product; orchestration of a sustained effort to address a community need; and promotion of active community participation by others.

"I have long believed that community service is an extension of an attorney's obligation to help people solve problems," said Keller. "I am proud that my law firm has a long history of involvement in service clubs such as Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis and Zonta clubs, and am deeply honored that the Washington County Community Foundation has deemed our efforts worthy of such high praise. I look forward to seeing many other deserving businesses receive this honor."

Through Keller's leadership and vision, Peacock Keller was founded on the principles of corporate philanthropy, zealous legal representation and community outreach. Now, 86 year later, the firm is among the largest and longest established full-service law firms in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Among its many charitable programs, the firm sponsors "Off the Shelf" a unique benefit for the libraries in Washington, Greene and Fayette Counties. The 2011 event will take place the evening of September 21 at Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe, Canonsburg ,Pa.

Recognition of Keller's devotion to helping others extends back to 1947, when the summa cum laude graduate of California State College (now California University of Pennsylvania) received the institution's Distinguished Service Award. Since then, Keller has remained dedicated to bettering the worldwide community. He has served as president and/or director of the Washington County Easter Seals Society, the Mon Valley United Way, the Mon Valley Hospital, the Mon Valley Health and Welfare Council and the California (Pa.) Area Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Pennsylvania State Chamber of Commerce and executive vice president and director of the Allegheny Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America. Keller is a founding trustee and past president of WCCF and continues to serve as a trustee of the organization today. In addition, Keller's leadership in Rotary International began in 1974, when he was appointed to its board of directors. He also served as a member and chairman of the board of trustees of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of California, Pa., since 1950. Currently, Keller concentrates his efforts in the field of international service with the Rotary Foundation, which works to foster world peace, goodwill and understanding.
