AsiaRooms.com - Hong Kong Book Fair to Feature David Starkey

Historian David Starkey will be among the writers at this summer's Hong Kong Book Fair.

2011-06-12
HONG KONG, HK, June 12, 2011 (Press-News.org) David Starkey, one of the UK's most eminent historians, is set to take part in the 22nd Hong Kong Book Fair next month.

The academic and writer will join three other British authors in a forum hosted by entrepreneur Sir David Tang at the event, which is due to run from Wednesday July 20th to Tuesday July 26th.

Other writers scheduled to visit Hong Kong for the fair include Nicholas Coleridge, Justin Hill, Karl Taro Greenfield and Tabish Khair.

Taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the festival of literature has chosen "Reading the World, Reading as Self-Discovery" as its theme for 2011.

More than 270 cultural events are due to take place during the seven-day fair, which explores the world of electronic publishing as well as traditional books.

In a recent interview with the organisers, Starkey said he is looking forward to visiting Hong Kong for the first time since it came under Chinese rule.

He described the city-state as an "astonishing piece of culture experimentation", as it has been "importing the extremes of economic individualism and deregulation into a Chinese environment" since the British regime ended in 1997.

Adult tickets for the Hong Kong Book Fair are priced at HK$25 (GBP1.90), while children can enter for HKEUR10.

Book lovers will find a wide range of Hong Kong hotels at AsiaRooms.com, which recommends the Kings De Nathan.
