DALLAS, TX, June 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) Turner Construction Company, the nation's leading general builder, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in North Texas. With more than 400 projects to its credit in North Texas, Turner's DFW operations employ more than 150 full-time construction staff and are responsible for more than $400 million of construction work each year.
As a leading construction firm that has transformed cities worldwide since 1902, Turner has been helping build the foundation of Texas since 1919 when it constructed the 94-building complex for Humble Oil Company (now Exxon Mobil). Turner officially opened an office in North Texas in 1986, which is now the headquarters for the state.
"The past 25 years have witnessed steady growth for Turner in North Texas, and our DFW operations are on target for another great year despite current economic conditions," said Matt Papenfus, Turner's senior vice president in charge of leading the growth for the region. "We are continuing to build a tremendous team to support our growth in the area and look forward to shaping the North Texas landscape for decades to come."
Since 1986, Turner has completed a number of landmark construction projects in North Texas, including the Annette Strauss Artist Square, Southside on Lamar, Great Wolf Lodge & Resort, various SMU and UT Dallas campus buildings, the first green Wal-Mart Experimental Supercenter, The Tower in Fort Worth and several headquarters facilities in North Texas. Turner is also completing a corporate campus in Westlake - the second largest construction project start in 2009.
Among its more recent projects, Turner is currently constructing the 33,000-sq.-ft. visitor center and campus bookstore at the University of Texas at Dallas, which will serve as a focal point for the campus and student activities. "This building also utilizes sustainable building practices, which has become an area of importance to the university and the industry as a whole," said Papenfus. "Overall, the project exemplifies the quality craftsmanship, innovative construction solutions and sustainable methods on which Turner has built its reputation."
During its 25 years in North Texas, Turner has also become an integral part of the community by serving and contributing to various community and local charitable organizations. In 1993, Turner established its Turner School of Construction Management (TSCM) program - a curriculum that educates for small minority and woman-owned businesses to build capacity in the construction industry. Since its start, the program has graduated more than 400 people in North Texas.
Turner also actively supports Goodwill, Communities in Schools Dallas Region, the ACE Mentor program (Architecture, Construction & Engineering), the Dallas Hearts and Hammers program, the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and many other charitable organizations.
"Turner's commitment to the community has enabled us to build a reputation as a sustainable partner to the area and a good corporate citizen," said Abrar Sheriff, vice president and general manager of Turner Construction Company. "We are proud to have created a special bond with North Texas over the past 25 years and we are excited to be a part of its growth and continued development in the future."
