EVERGREEN, CO, June 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) FrontDoorSoftware Corporation has announced a new partnership with the University of Mississippi providing its "Safe Campus" laptop loss prevention and recovery software to university students and faculty.
"We are extremely pleased to partner with the University of Mississippi and be able to provide this valuable service to all students and faculty who enlist in the program," said Carrie Hafeman, president of FrontDoorSoftware Corporation. "Laptop theft is one of the most prevalent crimes on college campuses. This software can provide students, parents and faculty peace of mind knowing they have multiple options to track down a lost or stolen laptop, and increase their chances of success from 3% to more than 95%."
When a school or university signs up for the program, they are provided with their own FrontDoorSoftware URL to share with students and staff members. This URL provides each individual with the instructions for uploading the software to their computer and enlisting them in the "Safe Campus" program for up to 4 years.
Once installed this recovery program will immediately give owners the following 10 powerful features designed to help track down and recover a laptop if it is lost or stolen:
1. Activate a digital ownership recovery screen that displays contact information on the boot-up screen. This provides a way for someone in possession of a lost laptop to contact the rightful owner quickly.
2. Activate a large red and yellow "Stolen Computer" message that appears on the boot-up screen notifying whoever is using the computer that it has been reported stolen and helping prevent an illegal resale of the computer.
3. Turn on an audible security alert message that plays once at boot-up to help prevent theft.
4. Send a lockdown code to the computer effectively freezing access to programs and protecting personal owner information.
5. Activate an audio message announcing to all within hearing distance that the laptop was stolen, essentially allowing the computer to sound its own distress signal and shout for help. Owners can even create their own custom message to yell at the thief.
6. Remotely update his or her contact recovery information on the digital owner recovery display allowing owners to make sure it is current if the laptop goes missing.
7. Send a message that appears on the boot-up screen and attempt to communicate in real time with whoever has the computer and negotiate its safe return
8. Each laptop registered is automatically entered into an international web-based recovery center that collects the unique machine address (MAC address), owner information and equipment information, providing a proof of ownership.
9. Print out your own visual security alert label to help prevent a theft before it happens.
10. Track the laptop using Wi-Fi Geo-Location capabilities and Google Maps.
University of Mississippi students and faculty who wish to enlist their laptops in the program or learn more should visit www.frontdoorsoftware.com/olemiss.

In a new FAQ published on OnlineAutoInsurance.com, the writers highlight a way to get cheaper insurance prices through making their cars safer and themselves safer motorists.
Taking certain measures can in some cases result in a discount on car insurance premiums, but it is often dependent on the types of safety measures taken and the types of auto coverage purchased.
State Farm, for instance, provides discounts in some states for having passive-restraint systems and factory-installed airbags that meet certain standards. But those usually only apply to personal injury ...
