WEST MIDLANDS, ENGLAND, June 17, 2011 (Press-News.org) Lovers of glitz and fashion packed central London recently for the Glamour Magazine Awards sponsored by jewellery brand Pandora.
The Glamour Magazine Awards have always celebrated style and refinement, but with new additions to the ceremony reflecting the diversity of roles performed by women in society the event has deservedly won more attention for both the recipients and the organisers.
The nominees were voted for by readers of the magazine except for the Editor's Award for Outstanding Contribution, which went to rock music icon Stevie Nicks of classic band Fleetwood Mac.
Pandora, famous for its ever-popular Pandora completed bracelets, sponsored the entire event and also lent its name to one special award. The 2011 Pandora Breakthrough of the Year award went to 'Starry-Eyed' singer Ellie Goulding, following her chart success over the past year.
Musicians and musical performers were well represented amongst the award recipients. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the huge success of her album '21', Adele Adkins was rewarded with the honour of UK Solo Artist of the Year. She had better watch out though, as Woman of Tomorrow was fast-rising star Jessie J best known for 'Do It Like a Dude' and 'Price Tag'. Meanwhile, Band of the Year was presented to girl group "The Saturdays".
Amongst the other recipients, TV Presenter of the Year went to former Big Brother host Davina McCall now known for presenting new Channel 4 game show 'Million Pound Drop Live'. TV Personality of the Year was awarded to former 'X-Factor' judge Dannii Minogue.
Other media awards went to Lenora Critchlow who picked up the TV Actress of the Year award for her portrayal of Annie the ghost who house-shared with a vampire and a werewolf in the breakout BBC Three drama series 'Being Human'. Radio DJ of the Year was taken by Radio 1's Fearne Cotton and the Film-maker of the Year award went to Jane Goldman for her work on the film 'Kick Ass'.
Fittingly for a fashion magazine, the ceremony also acknowledged the fashion industry. Designer of the Year was awarded to Sarah Burton for her work at design house Alexandra McQueen and Accessory Designer of the Year was awarded to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham
