BERLIN, GERMANY, June 17, 2011 (Press-News.org) XinXii, the online market place for indie authors and self-publishers develops a mobile version for HTML5-compatible devices: The web app means that the eBook shop can also be accessed by mobile users. The browser-based application scores with a host of useful functions for rapid and simple upload or download whilst on the move: Authors can now also manage their publications on their mobile end device after a simple log-in or upload new ones and offer downloads for a fee. All processes are done as usual in real time. In the same way, readers gain access to the overall catalogue of more than 12,000 titles that are displayed with the information that is standard on XinXii.com such as category, product description, length, author profile and useful rating information. The purchased eBook, document or audio book is downloaded and is available for direct or later reading/listening - even without a network connection. "Authors who want to publish, for example, their seminar documents while they are on the move no longer need a laptop - just their iPad, their tablet or their smartphone," says Dr Andrea Schober, CEO of XinXii.com. "Readers can read the purchased text as required either directly or transfer them into iBooks or native reader apps and access them for as long as they like."
In order to be able to use XinXii on a mobile end device, the user does not have to download and install any native app. The call-up of the web app is done in the web browser via the address app.xinxii.com. It can then be stored on the user's own app homepage as a bookmark and started immediately at the click of a button. The browser-based HTML5 application not only supplies optimized content on tablets and smartphones; it can also be used without any disadvantages compared to a native app, even with slow connections.
With the development of the web app, XinXii.com is the first eBook platform worldwide to use the new options presented by HTML5. "With the application, we offer authors additional sales channels and conversely, readers receive genuine added value through additional access options," says Schober, commenting on the new development.
According to a study by the US market research company Gartner, global sales in the first quarter of 2011 increased by 19% over the previous year to a total of 428 million cell phones sold. Just under one in four cell phones was a smartphone, an increase of 85%. For this year, Gartner is forecasting sales of 54.8 million tablets, which corresponds to a growth of 181% over the previous year. In 2012, sales are expected to increase to more than 208 million worldwide. Schober: "The increasing spread of touch devices offers us great opportunities to transfer our expertise in digital self-publishing to the mobile world."
The new XinXii web application is iOS and Android-compatible and will be available free of charge from XinXii in late summer 2011 for all 7 language versions.
XinXii is an online market place for self-written texts of all kinds and lengths: eBooks, documents and audio books. In contrast to conventional eBook shops, XinXii offers a point of contact for anyone looking to sell their digital works themselves on the Internet and readers who are looking for non-mainstream titles: for example, works of fiction by talented authors, guidebooks from experts, Excel tables from professionals, instructions for use from users, business plans or seminar documents. At http://www.xinxii.com, approximately 7,000 authors offer more than 12,000 titles; every day, numerous new uploads are added to this figure.
XinXii was established in 2008 by Dr Andrea Schober and is already the market leader in Europe. The digital self-publishing platform can be used in 7 languages and 3 currencies. The company is based in Berlin.
