Aslanian eLearning Poll Finds 50% of Prospective Online Students Have Taken Online Course Already

Poll also finds prospective students are degree-seeking instead of attending one-off classes

2011-06-17
DENVER, CO, June 17, 2011 (Press-News.org) According to survey results released by eLearners.com today, 50 percent of prospective online students have already taken an online course and are considering additional online education. Participants in the May Aslanian eLearning Poll responded to a variety of questions related to their motivations and interest in online college courses. The results indicate that prospective students who have taken online courses are satisfied with the non-classroom based format.

"It was intriguing to us to see that 50 percent of the participants of our May poll had experienced online instruction and were back for more and that 50 percent had no direct experience with online education but were now searching for online programs," said Carol Aslanian, adult education expert and Senior Vice President of Aslanian Market Research, which conducted the Aslanian eLearning Poll with eLearners.com. "The findings would suggest that the online learning explosion will continue. Prospective students have either had a positive experience or they believe it could be a good alternative to a campus-based program. Often for busy working adults it comes down to flexibility and convenience, which makes online programs attractive."

The Poll also found that prospective online learners most often search for a degree program (70 percent) versus online certificate programs, licensing programs or individual online classes. 53 percent of respondents were interested in graduate level study, such as an online masters degree program, and 47 percent were interested in online undergraduate programs at the bachelor's level.

The Aslanian eLearning Poll was conducted during May 2011 and respondents represented a sample of prospective online learners who registered with eLearners.com during the month. The complete results of the May survey are available at http://www.educationdynamics.com/Market-Research/Poll/May-2011.aspx.

For more information about online courses and degree programs, prospective students should visit elearners.com, or for tips and advice related to online education, they should go to the Back to School Survival Guide at http://www.elearners.com/back-to-school/.
