MIAMI, FL, June 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) The City of Sunny Isles Beach (SIB), in conjunction with The Continental Group (TCG), will host a "2011 Hurricane Preparedness Summit" on Tuesday, June 21st from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the SIB Government Center within the David P. Samson Commission Chambers, located at 18070 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, FL 33160. The event is open to all residents of the SIB community, Condo Association Board Members and Property Managers. Admission is free.
Moderated by CBS 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beradelli, the interactive panel will discuss best practices in hurricane preparedness, and focus on helping attendees create a realistic, functional plan critical for successful preparation, response and recovery should a hurricane strike the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Panelists will include Bill Worrall, TCG Corporate Vice President; Fred Maas, Chief of Police of the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and Clay Parker, SIB City Building Official. Topics will include steps for creating a personal hurricane plan; how to protect your community, common areas, and property; how to prepare for an evacuation; what to expect before, during and after a storm; and community training and preparedness for high-rise condominiums.
This is the third condo hurricane summit TCG has coordinated in the past two months to help Florida residents prepare themselves before a natural disaster strikes. A fourth summit will take place in Daytona Beach on July 7th, 2011. The Atlantic hurricane season began June 1st and ends November 30th; and projections point toward an active 2011. With a yearly population of 21,000 plus an estimated one million tourists annually to the 2.5 square mile barrier island, the city of Sunny Isles understands the need for condominium-specific hurricane preparation in order to minimize property loss and injuries. When it comes to hurricane preparedness and disaster recovery, TCG, a leading community association management company, provides useful advice on the response to and protection from hurricanes, as well as disaster recovery services to its properties.
"It's vital to address and prepare residents, condo association board members, property managers and all residents of Sunny Isles Beach for a major hurricane catastrophe. Sunny Isles Beach is located on a barrier island in the northeast corner of Miami-Dade County, bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west. Because of our location, we need to always be prepared with a strategic and effective hurricane plan," said Fred Maas, Police Chief of Sunny Isles Beach. "The panel of hurricane professionals will assist our city residents with useful information tailored to their specific needs such as preparing for an evacuation, power outage and what to do with a family member with special medical needs."
