ALEXANDRIA, VA, July 02, 2011 (Press-News.org) Due to an unusually wet spring and summer, the threat of mosquito invasions and the ensuing diseases carried by these pests is higher than in normal years. According to George Schulz, owner of Bite-Busters.com and Better Termite & Pest Control in Alexandria, "We're seeing evidence that mosquitoes are back with a vengeance and we're encouraging our clients to take measures to remove breeding sites which is one of the best things a homeowner can do."
Schulz indicates that eliminating mosquito breeding areas such as standing water in potted plants with drip pans, gutters, pet dishes, old tires, rain or irrigation barrels, bird baths and other ornamental objects, fountains, open bottles, jars, cans, buckets, wading pools, or other areas where water may accumulate after a rain can help prevent mosquito problems.
Because mosquitoes carry and transmit West Nile Virus, Malaria, Dengue & Yellow Fever, Easter Equine Encephalitis, and other diseases, it is especially important to have grounds treated to keep mosquitoes at bay. Personal insect repellents should also be worn when outside. Mosquitoes are most active at dusk or dawn and are relatively weak flyers, so a big fan or your deck or patio may keep these pests away during outdoor activities.
The week of July 26-July 2 has been declared National Mosquito Control Awareness Week by the American Mosquito Control Association. The goal is to educate the public about the significance of mosquitoes in their daily lives and the important service provided by mosquito control experts through the U.S.
Schulz says his company has several mosquito control programs available to the public to help eliminate this serious health risk to citizens of Alexandria and surrounding areas.
Better Termite & Pest Control is a full service pest control company in Alexandria, VA. The company also provides mosquito control services.
