BROOKLYN, NY, July 02, 2011 (Press-News.org) Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue has been named the July 2011 beneficiary for Rescue Chocolate, the vegan chocolate company which donates 100% of its profits to various animal rescue organizations.
Based in Mesa, Arizona, Valley of the Sun was founded in the year 2000. The organization focuses on helping ill, injured, maimed, abandoned or unwanted American Pit Bulls and Staffordshire Terriers. But no breed in need is turned away. Dogs come to the group from various animal shelters in the area and from private citizens.
Before the dogs leave the shelter and go to their adoptive homes, they are all spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Prospective adopters fill out an extensive application and then agree to home visits by the staff and volunteers of Valley of the Sun.
The donation from Rescue Chocolate will be used to maintain these programs.
In addition to re-homing the dogs in its care, Valley of the Sun is interested in educating the public about the often misunderstood "bully" breeds of dogs. The group lets the public know that with the correct socialization and training, most dogs can be affectionate, loyal pets.
"I love the educational component of what they do," said Rescue Chocolate founder Sarah Gross. "That is what I try to do with my company too. The more people who get the message about spaying and neutering, fostering, and training, the fewer dogs and cats will have to be destroyed in this country."
Gross's company offers a product line of kosher and vegan chocolate bars and truffles. Each flavor is named after an issue important in the animal rescue world. For example, there are bars called Peanut Butter Pit Bull, Pick Me! Pepper, Foster-iffic Peppermint, The Fix, and Mission Feral Fig. During warm-weather months, the company also provides such non-melting items as gift certificates, leashes, tee shirts, and granola bars.
The chocolate company was founded in January 2010. To date, approximately 50 animal rescue organizations have received donations from the company. Products are sold in retail outlets around the country as well as online. For more information or to place an order benefitting Valley of the Sun, visit http://www.RescueChocolate.com.
