HOUSTON, TX, July 03, 2011 (Press-News.org) Houston - Holy guacamole! Molina's Cantina, Houston's oldest family owned and operated Tex-Mex restaurant, is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a spirited month-long celebration and everyone's invited to the party. While many competitors have faded over the years, the old-school, third generation Tex-Mex chain has maintained a consistently high standard of taste and service and a long-standing base of loyal fans, so it comes as no surprise that the restaurant will celebrate its customers by giving back to them by way of limited-time-only prices rolled back to 1941 on featured items, food and drink specials, prize giveaways and more throughout the month of July.
"Restaurant years are like dog years, and at 70 we're as old as Methuselah. Anyone that old deserves a month-long celebration," says Ricardo Molina who, along with brothers Raul III and Roberto, represents the third generation to own and operate the family restaurant. "But seriously, this is our opportunity to give back to those who have supported us over the years, our guests, our staff and our vendors, who truly are our extended family."
Anniversary festivities kick off at the eateries on Friday, July 1, officially proclaimed by Mayor Annise Parker and the City of Houston as "Molina's Cantina Day." That day the restaurants will debut "the 1941," a signature margarita created to commemorate Molina's 70 years in business, along with free tastings, giveaway 70th anniversary koozies and offer food and drink specials.
The party continues every day throughout the entire month of July, with limited-time-only exclusive menu prices rolled back to 1941- think cheese enchilada dinner for fifty cents, the #1 combo plate (beef taco, tostada and enchilada) for just sixty cents, or chicken enchilada dinner for seventy cents. (Loco, we know!) Other daily offerings will include half-price specials on signature menu items named after Molina's customers, including the Nancy Ames Nachos, Berly's Burrito, C.W. Special and more. Taco Tuesdays will feature different taco specials each Tuesday, for example 1941 priced crispy chicken tacos for sixty cents, and each Friday the restaurant will give away 70th anniversary koozies. The promotion will be driven via social media, with all daily offers announced via Molina's Facebook and Twitter the day of the promotion. "If you don't want to miss out on our daily specials, you'll want to follow Molina's on Facebook or twitter," says Molina.
And what's a great party without a good toast? Thus Molina's "Post a Toast" competition, a month long opportunity to get creative and share your 70th anniversary salutation to Molina's. To participate, simply log on to Molina's Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/molinascatnina and post a toast, or tweet on twitter @molinascantina. Contest ends July 31. The best toast earns one lucky contestant a patio party at Molina's for 25.
Molina's month-long anniversary celebration culminates with parties at the 4720 Washington Ave. location on Saturday, July 30 and the 7901 Westheimer Rd. location on Sunday, July 31, both from 3 to 6 pm, featuring mariachi bands, complimentary appetizers, drink specials, prize giveaways and more.
