Mayne Stage Launches Live Weekly 98.7 WFMT Broadcasts

Sunday morning series showcasing local chamber music artists premieres Sept. 19

CHICAGO, IL, September 18, 2010 (Press-News.org) Mayne Stage, in collaboration with 98.7 WFMT, Chicago's Classical Experience, announces the return of live local broadcasts of chamber music on Sunday mornings. Live From Mayne Stage, hosted by Dennis Moore, debuts 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19 on 98.7 WFMT.

Each 60-minute program, originating from Mayne Stage, showcases a variety of acclaimed classical soloists and top ensembles from the Chicago area, performing for a live audience as well as radio listeners throughout the area and beyond, via WFMT's streaming service.

The Live From Mayne Stage premiere September 19 features Chicago's period instrument orchestra, Baroque Band. Baroque Band opens the new series with a varied and dynamic presentation, including an overture of Telemann, Matthew Locke's incidental music to The Tempest, Mensa Sonora by Biber and Chacony by Purcell.

September 26 brings Fifth House Ensemble, an exciting and innovative chamber music ensemble presenting a diverse program of works from their forthcoming debut album, "Black Violet." From the orchestral sounds of Walter Piston's "Divertimento," to the fresh sounds of young composers Jonathan Keren and Greg Simon, this program is sure to delight.

Celebrated violinist Rachel Barton Pine performs October 3. Barton Pine is featured in a recital for unaccompanied violin which includes works written for her and arrangements of her own.

Join Winston Choi October 10. The pianist, who is Head of Piano at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts, offers a program called The Myriad Faces of Water depicting composers' various ways of depicting water, featuring music by Schubert, Liszt, Ravel, Griffes, Ireland, Berio, Takemitsu, Yvar Mikhashoff and Brian Current.

Future bookings for the Live From Mayne Stage series include the Avalon String Quartet, CUBE, Rush House Concerts and violinist Ilya Kaler.

The 299-seat Mayne Stage utilizes a 48-track digital live broadcast environment designed in consultation with a team of engineers to meet the high standards of WFMT. The seating arrangement is informal and relaxed, combining the intimacy and ambience of a classic nightclub with the focus of a modern entertainment venue.
