BALAM Dance Theatre (BALAM) presents "The Melon Peel", an authentic and hilarious Commedia dell'Arte monologue, at the 2010 DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL, 25 Jay Street, Brooklyn, New York on Sunday, September 26, 2010, from 5-6 p.m. The festival is open and FREE to the public.BALAM creates a new vision of contemporary dance by fusing Balinese theatre and diverse cultural movement
styles from around the world. "The Melon Peel" features Inma Heredia, BALAM's resident guest actor, in this
bawdy monologue created with period gestures and choreography by BALAM's artistic director, Carlos Fittante, a Baroque dance specialist.
This period solo utilizes principles from the Baroque system of declamatory acting and draws upon Ms. Heredia's
natural comedic ability and physical skill to bring to life the character of Isabella, a sixteenth century woman.
Through the recounting of her spicy coming of age story, Isabella brazenly challenges the hypocrisy and social
inequities of gender roles in love and marriage.
The DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL, under the direction of Young Soon Kim, is produced by WHITE WAVE at the
John Ryan Theatre and celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. The festival runs from September 23-26 and
will showcase a kaleidoscope of cutting-edge, contemporary dance through the selected works of 80
choreographers and companies.BALAM's artistic director, Carlos Fittante, a Baroque dance specialist.
Inma Heredia, known as flamenco's first and only stand up comedienne, premiered in 'The Melon Peel" earlier
this year to rave reviews in La Lupa Festival in Los Angeles, California. Born and raised in Seville, Spain,

She performs as special event master of ceremonies, entertainer, and actor and has numerous theatre,
Spanish dance, film and television credits. She has trained at the London's Stopgap Theatre Company, the
Gardzienice Centre for Theatre Practices in Poland, and the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City,
where she now resides.
