CARLSBAD, CA, July 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) Pacific Ridge School, the Carlsbad non-profit, independent school, which opened in 2007 and includes grades 7-12, is pleased to announce the promotion of Jennifer Bjornstad to dean of faculty. Bjornstad, a founding faculty member and mathematics teacher, has served as the school's ninth and tenth grade academic dean. As dean of faculty, Bjornstad will now oversee school-wide academics, including the creation of academic schedules and management of academic funds, as well as the professional development and growth of faculty.
"As a founding faculty member and school leader, Jennifer Bjornstad is well poised for the dean of faculty position," said Dr. Bob Ogle, co-head, Pacific Ridge School. "Ms. Bjornstad proved successful in her previous role, fostering the academic excellence portion of the school's mission. We look forward to relying on her dedication and expertise to now oversee the instructional program and professional development of the Pacific Ridge School faculty."
Prior to joining Pacific Ridge School in 2007, Bjornstad taught algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus, as well as served as a staff collaboration coordinator for the San Dieguito Union High School District. She also served as the math department chair and teacher at Thunder Ridge High School in Denver, Co. Bjornstad earned a bachelor's degree in economics and psychology from Northwestern University and completed her graduate coursework in curriculum and instruction at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and San Diego State University.
The promotion of Bjornstad is the second leadership promotion at the school this year. In April, the Pacific Ridge School Board of Trustees unanimously approved the promotion of Dr. Bob Ogle, former assistant head of school, to co-head the school with Dr. Eileen Mullady, the founding head of school. In a continuing effort to aid area charitable efforts, Dade Medical College has agreed to donate $250,000 to the Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation, the Miami Beach, FL-based Mount Sinai Medical Center's philanthropic arm.
