Segun algunos informes del New York Times y Houston Chronicle, muchos centros de estetica de unas no cumplen dichas expectativas. Muchos spa y centros de estetica utilizan lamparas UV para que acelerar el secado de las unas. Estas lamparas tambien se venden habitualmente para su uso domestico.
LA RELACION CON EL CANCER DE PIEL
Lo que los consumidores no saben sobre estas lamparas es que los investigadores y doctores creen que hay pruebas de su relacion con el cancer de piel. Es bien sabido que la exposicion excesiva a los rayos UV aumenta la probabilidad de padecer cancer de piel. Estas lamparas se consideran potencialmente peligrosas porque emiten principalmente rayos UVA, una forma de radiacion electromagnetica que penetra en profundidad en el tejido de la piel.
En su articulo de 2009 sobre los riesgos de las lamparas de secado de unas, la Dra. Deborah F. MacFarlane, profesora de Dermatologia y directora de la unidad de Mohs y Cirugia dermica en el Centro M.D. Anderson Cancer Center de Houston (Estados Unidos), escribio: "Al parecer, la exposicion a las lamparas UV de secado de unas es un factor para el desarrollo del cancer de piel".
En Mount Kisko, Nueva York (Estados Unidos), el dermatologo David Bank anima a sus pacientes a que eviten el uso de estas lamparas UV. "Si la exposicion es frecuente, ya sea durante semanas o meses, las celulas de la piel resultaran danadas", manifesto Bank al Houston Chronicle.
La Dra. Roshini Raj, profesora asistente de Medicina en la Universidad de Nueva York aseguro al New York Times que utilizar una lampara de secado de unas cada una o dos semanas equivale a un exposicion considerable a los rayos UV. Recomienda utilizarlas en contadas ocasiones o evitar totalmente su uso.
RESPONSABILIDAD POR DANOS Y PERJUICIOS
Las personas que han estado expuestas a las lamparas de rayos UV y UVA de secado de unas tanto en casa como en centros de estetica se preguntan quien se hara cargo de las facturas medicas y de otros perjuicios si desarrollan cancer de piel.
Existen varias posibilidades en funcion de las circunstancias, entre las que se incluyen:
- El fabricante de la lampara de secado comercializada para su uso profesional o domestico; el fabricante podria ser responsable si no advirtiera de los riesgos de la utilizacion del producto
- El centro de estetica donde se utilizan las lamparas para manicuras y pedicuras
- Las aseguradoras de los fabricantes de lamparas y de los centros de estetica
- El medico que no diagnostique adecuadamente y a tiempo un cancer de piel
