ATLANTA, GA, August 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) Southern fiction author Paul Yarbrough is releasing his first novel Mississippi Cotton, a novel that brings to light the complex history of rural Mississippi in the 1950's. The book is published by WiDō Publishing in Salt Lake City, Utah. Readers have termed Mississippi Cotton as a 20th Century Huck Finn adventure story. The book has received strong reviews from Delta Magazine, Southern Literary Review and many other sources. Mr. Yarbrough has had a handful of book signings across the Southeast and many more are to come.
"When I wrote Mississippi Cotton I wanted it to be a fiction novel for all ages. It follows a young boy named Jake Cooper on his adventure through the Mississippi Delta in 1951," said author Paul Yarbrough. Many people will be able to relate to Jake's summer vacation but his gets a little more adventurous as he and his cousins snoop around in a mystery that is better left to the grown-ups."
In his dedication, Yarbrough speaks of Mississippi as "the finest land; the finest people." The novel is "heavy on nostalgia and the setting is where my roots are: Mississippi." Even if you didn't grow up in Mississippi, Mr. Yarbrough expects you will still enjoy Mississippi Cotton.
"I really enjoy writing short stories and have now decided to write more novels," said Yarbrough. "I am fascinated with and highly value rural life in the South and my writings are a reflection of that. The underlying themes of my novels include honest and hard work, family unity, and pride in one's community and ways of life."
Currently Yarbrough is working in the Oil business in Houston, TX. He was born in Jackson, Mississippi, married in Louisiana, and lives in Houston, TX. Mr. Yarbrough attended Mississippi State University, University of Louisiana, Lafayette and University of Houston. He graduated with a Degree in Mathematics, Physics and went to graduate school in applied mathematics and geophysics.
