CHATSWORTH, CA, August 31, 2011 (Press-News.org) Back Page Magazine recently interviewed Johnny Winter, Zakk Wylde, and Van Halen's Michael Anthony about, of all things, hot sauce.
Legendary blues guitarist Johnny Winter has just released a custom concoction with the name "Johnny Winter Screamin' Demon Hot Sauce," which begs the question... "what is it with these rock stars and their hot sauces?"
Editor Jeff Cazanov started to see a pattern and was curious to find out the story: "Famous musicians have always put their names on traditional merchandise like t-shirts, coffee mugs, even beer steins, but this hot sauce thing was a new one to me."
Turns out Johnny Winter wasn't the first celebrity musician to tie up with a hot-sauce manufacturer. Aerosmith's Joe Perry, Van Halen's Michael Anthony, and Zakk Wylde from Ozzy Osbourne's band and Black Label Society had also joined the small cult of celebrities hawking their private label hot sauce.
Back Page Magazine enlisted the help of writer Marshall Ward in contacting these musician/hot-sauce connoisseurs in an article entitled "Fire in the Hole!"
Cazanov says: "What was surprising to me is that for these musicians, hot sauce was not just a marketing gag. They seem to need it, and felt impelled to help create custom blends specific to their own particular tastes." Rock & Roll Hall of Fame bassist Michael Anthony revealed to Ward that he even enjoys hot sauce on his ice cream.
Back Page Magazine, a new music and entertainment website prides itself on taking interesting angles to music-related stories. Cazanov is hoping that musicians and celebrities will see the e-zine as a free-form soapbox for talking about subjects even outside their professions - their causes, their stories, and their personal opinions on most anything.
