LONDON, ENGLAND, September 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) Organisers of the British Poker Awards, which takes place at Poker in the Park on Saturday 3rd September, have announced the awards ceremony will be hosted by stand-up comedian Lucy Porter and will include a charity auction to raise money for Peace and Sport (www.peace-sport.org). Among the items to go under Lucy's hammer will be Barcelona and Arsenal shirts signed by the teams. The public is welcome to participate in the auction.
The British Poker Awards kicks off at 3pm on the main stage at Poker in the Park on 3rd September. The awards look to honour the movers and shakers on the British poker scene in a year when UK players have dominated on the international circuit. Lucy Porter is amongst the most sought after comedy performers in the UK. As well as an accomplished stand-up comedian with three sell-out UK tours behind her, she is a regular face on TV and radio panel shows, including Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week and Argumental. She also starred in the critically acclaimed, box-office record-breaking run of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in Edinburgh and London's West End, alongside Christian Slater.
Peace and Sport was founded in 2007 by pentathlon Olympic medallist and world champion Joel Bouzou and works for sustainable peace throughout the world. It promotes the practice of structured sport and sporting values to educate young generations and help foster social stability, reconciliation and dialogue between communities. Peace and Sport intervenes in areas made vulnerable by extreme poverty, recent conflict or lack of social cohesion.
