Chef Michael Urbin Promoted to Executive Chef at MGM Grand Detroit

Urbin will oversee all of the property's food sourcing and costing, banquet and meeting coordination and staff hiring, training and development

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, September 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) MGM Grand Detroit has named Michael Urbin as Executive Chef. The announcement was made by General Manager Steve Zanella.

In this position, Urbin will oversee all of the property's food sourcing and costing, banquet and meeting coordination and staff hiring, training and development. He also will continue to manage MGM Grand Detroit's five restaurants, which include Wolfgang Puck Grille, SALTWATER, Bourbon Steak, Palette Dining Studio and Breeze Dining Court, banquet facilities and employee dining areas, coordinating all menus, themes, presentations and taste for property chefs.

Urbin joined MGM Grand Detroit in 1999 as sous chef in the buffet and quickly moved through the property's dining facilities. In 2007, he was named Assistant Executive Chef. He has more than 23 years of experience as a culinary professional, working in several metropolitan Detroit restaurants, including Tres Vite, Venti Uno and The Hollywood Brown Derby.

"Chef Michael Urbin has worked tirelessly for the food and beverage department at MGM Grand Detroit for more than 10 years," said Zanella. "We are all looking forward to the new ideas he will bring to our restaurants and banquet facilities as Executive Chef."

The Ann Arbor resident attended Eastern Michigan University where he studied finance.
