2011-10-06
NEW YORK, NY, October 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) New York based Inherent Artists Music and Tinderbox Arts are hosting Piano Driven Women a showcase to benefit Mill Street Loft Outreach Programs PASWORD and Project AWARE. The benefit will take place on November 2nd at Joe's Pub in New York City.

Inherent Artists Music Management, a company which values female empowerment and equality, is happy to be putting together a show whose proceeds will go to aid young women in the impoverished Upstate New York town of Poughkeepsie. Tinderbox Arts is also no stranger to giving back to the female community - 100% of their net proceeds go to the organizations Girls Write Now and the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.

The benefit Piano Driven Women will feature headliner Rachel Sage, who has been called "one of the top 100 songwriters of the past 15 years" by Performing Songwriter Magazine. The event will feature six other popular female artists: Rachelle Garniez, Greta Gertler, Alyson Greenfield, Dani Elliott, Allison's Invention, and Lacrymosa. Each of these women uses the piano to write powerful, witty and often introspective songs. The work of these artists has gained the attention of fans across the United States and in some cases across the World. These Piano Driven Women have a multitude of accomplishments under their belts, including: singing backup for Sheryl Crow and Amos Lee (Dani Elliott), collaborating with Thomas Dolby and being given the title "Diva with a Difference" (Rachelle Garniez), achieving Emmy nominations (Allison's Invention), becoming multi-platinum sellers (Greta Gertler), features at the 2011 Beatboxing Championships (Alyson Greenfield), and performances at The Bowery Ballroom (Lacrymosa).

These artists are coming together to support Mill Street Loft's PASWORD (Program for Adolescent Student Women Of Real Direction) and Project AWARE (Adolescent Women Are Realizing Empowerment). These programs are "gender specific programs for girls ages 11-18 in the Cities of Poughkeepsie and Beacon. [They] use the visual, performing, media, and literary arts to support young women on their journey toward being empowered, self-confident and creative leaders in their families, communities, and in the world," Director Joan Henry explains. "By kindling their inner fires and nourishing their expressive selves, these Girls' Empowerment programs help young women navigate the challenges of adolescence and discover their dreams, goals and ambitions for the future."

New York music fans and activists are asked to come to Joe's Pub and support these indispensable programs, which have helped hundreds of young women since 1999. Tickets are $12 and the net proceeds go directly to support PASWORD and Project AWARE.
